Anja Nissen was born on 6 November 1995 in Sydney, New South Wales in Australia to Danish born parents. Her mother and father emigrated from Denmark to Australia when they were 11 and 22 years old, respectively. Nissen grew up on her parents" country property in the Lower Blue Mountains with her older sister. She attended Winmalee High School, where she obtained her HSC in 2013. Throughout High School Anja was part of the exclusive Talent Development Program (TDP) and competed in a plethora of singing competitions.
The blonde diva partly attributes her powerful voice to being able to sing as loud as she desired at her parents" rural property from the age of six without disturbing the neighbours. While she has been inspired musically by the likes of Celine Dion, Patti Labelle, Aretha Franklin and Mariah Carey, she said it was her home community that kept pushing her through.
In 2008, Nissen made the semi finals of Australia"s Got Talent at age 12 and after that has performed as a vocalist on Kerri-Anne and the NSW Schools Spectacular. She cites singing the Danish national anthem for Princess Mary of Denmark as a personal highlight. Nissen turned her back on university to sing, she worked for her parents at their vegetable cutting business to earn some pocket money and was doing gigs here and there to forge a career in music - she says she couldn"t be wasting her time when she needed to get as much experience as possible in the industry.
Channel 9 network scouts plucked her from school spectacular and urged the teenager to test her talents on The Voice. Nissen won the 3rd series of the competition almost loosing out on a grand final spot to teammate ZK. But after belting out the Houston hit "I Have Nothing" in true diva style, she was voted back into the grand final as a Wildcard in a one-minute snap public vote, a first for the show. In the final she performed a duet with her metor Will.i.am and fellow contestant ZK "Where Is the Love?" and won the show with her rendition of "When Love Takes Over".
Her winner"s single was supposed to be "My Girls", which was originally written by Delta Goodrem for her fifth studio album, but it was later turned down by her mentor Will.i.am and ended competing at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest performed by Bella Paige. Nissen"s debut self-titled album was a "Journey" album of songs from The Voice released on 1 August 2014 and getting to 11th place in the Australian Charts.
Shortly after, Anja knuckled down with a star-studded posse of rappers and producers in a Los Angeles studio to create fresh sounds all of her own. At the invitation of Will.i.am Anja flew to L.A. to write and record with a team that included chart-topping singer Cody Wise, and The Black Eyed Peas rapper apl.de.ap. Only months after becoming a household name in Australia for her awe-inspiring R&B performances, Anja gave fans a taste of what she had been cooking up. That taste came in the form of I"m So Excited, a crisp track that sets it sights on summer dance floors. Featuring will.i.am and Cody Wise, the song finds Anja"s honeyed and powerful voice soaring over cool, elastic beats.
Anja"s second single, Anyone Who Had A Heart, reached #11 on the iTunes chart and enjoyed a national sync with Channel 9 hit TV drama, Love Child. It showcases Anja"s effortless, powerhouse vocals and belies her twenty years of age. Shortly after came Triumph, the inspiring, uplifting pop track which was accompanied by an artistic, somewhat controversial, music video. She performed her single on The Voice Australia 2015 to over 1.6 million viewers nationwide.
Now, currently in Denmark recording with some of the industry"s most revered producers, the future looks bright for Anja Nissen. In 2016 she was chosen as Dansk Melodi Grand Prix finalist with "Never Alone", a track which was written by Denmark"s latest Eurovision winner, Emmelie de Forest, together with Danish songwriter/producer Rune Westberg and Mozella. She finished 2nd in the contest. Nissen returned to the competition in 2017 with "Where I Am", written by Anja Nissen, Australian singer Angel Tupai and the Australian songwriter Michael D"Arcy. Angel Tupai is best known for his participation in the Australian version of The X Factor in 2012, while Michael D"Arcy has worked together with Australian artists as 5 Seconds of Summer, Stan Walker and Jessica Mauboy.
"I love Denmark so much, and it was a fantastic experience to be in Denmark. It has always been my dream to represent Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest, so it is a great honour to be chosen this year. My song is powerful and dynamic "anthem" and very personal for me. "Where I Am" is about that you have to devote yourself when you are in a relationship. Once I was really in love, but I asked too many questions about my relationship and it held me back, though there was no real reason to. So it"s about being open and not hold back"
- What are the three most interesting aspects about your entry?
- I have a powerful voice, a powerful song, an authentic and down to earth perfomance. I can feel the difference between performing someone else has written and a song written by myself. I co-wrote my entry Where I Am.
- What are the three most impressive facts about you?
- I won The Voice Australia, and although I have grown up listening to Danish all my life, I have only been speaking it for ten months. I love animals had a pet snake! I have been singing since I was very young and you can even find videos of me on YouTube singing from a young age.
- Do you have a (lucky) routine before you go on stage?
- I do have a little routine, I normally breathe deeply, look up to the sky, find a place of calm and say that everything is going to be fine, have fun, do the best I can to reach out and tell a story.
- Why is the Eurovision Song Contest important for you?
- Eurovision is so important to me because it has been a dream of mine since I was only 11 years old. I have always been longing for Denmark and wanting to find a deeper connection to my other homeland. By representing Denmark I feel as though I have already achieved so much. There is so much love in my heart because I feel now as though I have been accepted by Denmark. I want to make them proud and show Europe that we are all connected no matter where we come from. It is also such a huge achievement for me as a songwriter to have my song in the competition and the ability to share my story. Eurovision is so special because it unites us all.
For the participation, either composer or songwriter or artist should have had close ties with Denmark (be citizen, resident of Denmark, married with Danish citizen etc). Residents of Faroe Islands were also allowed to participate. All artists must be at least 16 years old on the broadcasting date. Submitted entries should not have been longer than 3 minutes and should have never been presented to the public in any way till the national selection time. DR should have been informed immediately if the composition has been published earlier and it is up to DR to decide if the composition can join the competition.
"I"m looking for good songs with a strong chorus, which have the potential to be a hit - and which can get us to the final of the Eurovision", says DR"s entertainment chief, Jan Lagermand Lundme. "We must consider the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix as a semi-final of the Eurovision. And we must have some songs that are so strong that they can get us into the finals", says Lundme. "Some writers think that there is a special recipe for Eurovision entries. We go for modern pop songs, which can also be played anywhere besides the Eurovision Song Contest"
In the past, the selection of the DR Grand Prix songs always happened behind closed doors, but after missing the Eurovision finals for two years in a row, DR taken new methods in use: "We have established a new strategy for the selection of songs. We need more opinions and therefore we have invited a jury to hear and judge the songs"
, says DR"s entertainment manager Jan Lagermand Lundme. Therefore, DR invited 50 Eurovision fans, TV viewers and people from music industry on 10 October in DR Byen in Copenhagen to listen to and evaluate 41 out of the record 1,115 submitted potential Eurovision songs. 41 songs have been shortlisted by music producers Cutfather and Jonas Schroeder. Task of the extended jury was to select 5 out of 10 entries to compete in the national preselection final. While listening, members of the jury were not informed on the names of songwriters or performers. Remaining 5 entries will come from the direct invitation by the music producers. DR was choosing the soloists to perform the songs in consultation with the copyright owners. The soloists had to be selected mid-November 2016 at the latest. In case of disagreement, DR"s choice(s) was to take precedence. Participants of the final were unveiled at the news conference in DR Byen on 19 January. The ten entries will be published on February 20.
Two winners of X Factor line up in this year"s competition: Thomas Ring, who won the third season in 2010, and Anthony, who won the program in 2014 as part of Thomas Blachmans" duo Anthony Jasmin. Another winner of a talent show is Danish-Australian Anja, who won The Voice in Australia in 2014 and last year ended up in second place in the Danish preselection. René Machon returns to the Grand Prix stage for the second time after competing in 2015. Living doll Sada Vidoo has last year impressed the judges in the British version of X Factor. Two experienced and competent singers we find in Jeanette Bonde, who is known as backing singer for Stine Bramsen and Swedish Johanna Beijbom who has sung backing vocals at the Eurovision Song Contest as many as four times. Now both of them will try to get the breakthrough as the solo performers. Traditionally, Melodi Grand Prix also presents a series a completely new names from the Danish music scene: this time they are duo Mercury Calling, and the two singers Rikke Skytte and Ida Una, both of whom have been discovered via YouTube.
Entertainment Manager in DR, Jan Lagermand Lundme, promises that viewers in the hall and the thousands of viewers worldwide can look forward a very exciting show: "With the ten songs that will compete this year, we have a range of compositions and soloists in greater extent than ever before. The song, which will go to the Eurovision Song Contest, will be placed there really well - I"m quite sure about it! Boxen is also a perfect setting for Melodi Grand Prix, and with Johannes and Annette as hosts I can promise that it will be both highly professional and highly entertaining show" , he says.

At the Danish National Song Contest 2017 the compositions should be performed as singback – i.e. without live bands, but with taped instrumental music and backing vocals. At ESC 2017 all vocals including chorus must be 100 % live (no sampling etc. of vocals). Recording of singback tapes was made by agreement with DR. DR has the final say in the production of the TV show and the performance of the entries. This applies to the fields of orchestration, stage props, cameras, lights, choreography, monitor, PA and TV sound, costumes, styling, etc. Marketing and press work is coordinated by DR"s press division. Selected soloists etc., in the Danish final are not obvious candidates to represent Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. DR is to decide in consultation with the copyright owners which soloists etc., are to perform winning entry at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017.
"We have been looking at all the tiny details of the show to see what we can do to ensure that we choose the right song for Europe. And this year we want to involve Danish Eurovision fans into the selection. Danish fans have good taste and they know what works at the contest. hen we involved the fans in the process, it really struck me how good they are, how much knowledge they have and how much they actually can do so that we choose the right entry for the Eurovision. Thus, the national final jury will consist of five "superfans" (Mogens Dalsgaard Myklebust, Mette Thorning Svendsen, Peter Hansen, Morten Kaiser, Søren Toft) who have been selected through the lengthy process, which among other things has emphasized on finding people who have different approaches to Eurovision. Fans will get the 50% power in both rounds of voting, while remaining 50% will belong to televiewers. "These five are chosen because they are experts in the Eurovision Song Contest and not just Danish Melodi Grand Prix. They have been interested in Eurovision for many, many years and for them it is more of a lifestyle rather than just a hobby. They know a lot about Eurovision, and through the years they have analyzed in detail what works and what does not work" , says Jan Lagermand Lundme.
Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning will host Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2017 on February 25. It is far from the first time that Jyske Bank Boxen provides the setting for the Grand Prix party. Herning was host of the Melodi Grand Prix in 2009 and in 2013, when Emmelie de Forest won the competition and later brought Denmark victory at the Eurovision Song Contest. DR looks forward to be once again working with Herning on the big show and hopefully again find a winner who can repeat Emmelie the Forest"s great success.
Not only the viewers and TV audience at Jyske Bank Boxen can look forward to the Eurovision mood. City of Herning plans to keep the Grand Prix celebration throughout the month of February, so the city can truly live up to the title of this year"s Grand Prix city. See the list of over 60 activities . "MGP is a big celebration for the inhabitants. For both adult and children MGP Herning Municipality is preparing a pool for Eurovision activities in which can be involved both schools and senior citizen centers, as well as other institutions which can celebrate Grand Prix. We also invite retails, museums, educational institutions, restaurants and other interested parties to work together to make February 2017 a great Grand Prix month in Herning" , says Lars Krarup, who is mayor of Herning Municipality. Tickets for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2017 went on sale on 30 September at 12.00 at DRbillet.dk.
"We return to Herning, and it will be a happy reunion. MGP is a perfect fit for the city, and Boxen is one of the best places in the country to produce television in, so we have the ideal environment to work with. There is always a terrific atmosphere among the audience in the Boxem, and it reaches into the living rooms of all viewers, so we are really looking forward it", explains DR"s entertainment manager Jan Lagermand Lundme. "Melodi Grand Prix is the pan-Danish show, and so it is natural for us that we are going round the country. We give priority to change the city from year to year, because we know that the Melodi Grand Prix brings together the entire population, and we can really feel that when we get around the country. It is a celebration for all, and therefore we will also give the opportunity to as many people as possible to join in"
On 12 December it was announced that Annette Heick and Johannes Nymark will host Dansk Melodi Grand Prix final. Annette Heick will be hosting the show for the second consecutive year. At his side in 2017 she gets the actor and singer Johannes Nymark, who himself won the Grand Prix earlier this year with the group Lighthouse X. It will be the first time that 30-year-old Johannes Nymark will be acting as host of the show. "I am really looking forward to helping to host a show where we all enjoy and celebrate Danish music. It will be really cool and huge, but also a little anxiety provoking, so I"m glad that I have such a rock as Annette beside me" , he says.
"I began to cry for joy when I got the offer to host again. I am insanely happy, and also to stand there with Johannes. He is so thumping clever and totally cool, so I"m quite sure it probably should be good" , says Annette Heick.
Entertainment Manager of DR, Jan Lagermand Lundme, believes that Annette Heick and Johannes Nymark have a "totally unprecedented" chemistry, and he looks forward to welcoming the Danish TV viewers in one of the year"s highlights in television entertainment.
Olsen Brothers will perform as an interval act during DR Grand Prix final on 25 February. Jørgen and Niels "Noller" Olsen will perform their winning song of the Eurovision 2000. "It will be great to return to the Grand Prix scene. The victory at the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix and subsequently at the Eurovision Song Contest helped to change our lives, so it"s a big wish come true to stand again on the stage celebrate the big 60-year anniversary of Danish participation in the contest" , says Jørgen Olsen.

Телеканал DR начал подготовку к конкурсу Евровидение и планирование выступления Ани Ниссен в Киеве:
"Мы постараемся сделать номер масштабнее, добавив в него больше дыма и феерверков, и нечто особенное, что, впрочем, нам пока только предстоит найти" , говорит руководитель отдела развлекательного вещания телеканала DR Ян Лагерманд Лундме. "Мы должны переосмыслить сценический номер, обсудить его с украинцами, которые будут создавать телевизионное шоу. Но, думаю, что мы будем двигаться с чем-то, что будет напоминать номер Ани в Хернинге. Наши продюсеры посмотрят, как мы можем подойти к нему. Эта работа будет проходить в ближайшие несколько месяцев" .
Одним из обсуждаемых вопросов является - нужна ли Ане компания на сцене, но Ян Лагерманд Лундме считает, что нужно придерживаться сильных сторон ее выступления: "Это - баллада, и уже достаточно давно мы не выставляли баллад. И потому что Аня и ее песня так сильны, то она прекрасно смотрится на сцене сама по себе" .
Сама Аня говорит: "Мы не должны многого менять. Я думаю, что причиной того, что мы получили так много голосов, было то, что людям понравился наш номер таким, каким он был. Но мы можем улучшить его в нескольких направлениях" . У певицы есть следующее понимание рецепта победы: "Песня-победитель должна быть искренней, мощной эмоциональной, такой, чтобы зрители чувствовали, что она направленна именно к ним. Песня должна создавать с ними личностное взаимоотношение. И она должна отличаться от того, что люди слушали ранее" .
Продюсеры также думают о промо-кампании для Ани. "Это должно быть ее решением, как проводить кампанию, но мы вместе обсудим это. Мы, как телеканал, не можем осуществлять маркетинг для певца, который предлагает коммерческий продукт на продажу, но мы отвечаем за взаимоотношения с прессой, и к Ане уже заметен огромный интерес из-за рубежа" , объяснет Лундме.
В нынешнем году достойной важного статуса представительницы Дании на Евровидении оказалась молодая вокалистка по имени Аня Ниссен. Она опередила десять исполнителей, которые также пробовали свои силы на этом мероприятии. Поэтому в скором времени мы сможем услышать ее конкурсную песню «Where I Am» в живом исполнении.
Аня Ниссен - об исполнительнице
Аня Ниссен - вокалистка датско-австралийского происхождения. Она также является автором собственных песен, талантливой актрисой и танцовщицей. Год рождения певицы - 1995-ый.
Родители Ани вместе со своей одиннадцатилетней дочерью вынуждены были переехать в Австралию из родной Дании, и уже там девочка училась в школе. Параллельно с получением первого образования, будущая датская звезда участвовала в единственной в своем роде программе раскрытия талантов, а также нередко появлялась на различных музыкальных конкурсах.
Одним из первых ярких достижений в музыкальной карьере Ани Ниссен стала победа в рамках второго сезона известного на австралийском телевидении шоу под названием Australia’s Got Talent (2008-ой).
В 2014 году певица стала участницей третьего сезона не менее популярного проекта «The Voice» - австралийской версии известного в нашей стране шоу «Голос». Девушка была в команде американского рэпера Will.I.Am (Уильям Адамс) и, дойдя до финала программы, оказалась на заслуженном первом месте.
Вскоре последовал и выпуск дебютного альбома, в который вошли песни, исполняемые в рамках проекта «The Voice». Плодотворная работа в команде Will.I.Am также оказалась решающим моментом в судьбе певицы - через некоторое время после выхода первой пластинки девушка заключила договор с уже упомянутым Cody Wise. Вместе они выпустили альбом «I’m So Excited». Нужно отметить, что он вызвал неоднозначную реакцию у публики, однако определенно стал поводом для обсуждения творчества Ани.
Песни для своего следующего альбома Ани Ниссен начала писать уже в родной Дании и в Лос-Анжелесе, однако дата его релиза до сих пор не обозначена.

Первая попытка отправиться в другую страну, чтобы представить родную Данию на , состоялась у Ани в 2016 году. Однако по результатам Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2016, исполнив композицию под названием Never Alone, она заняла лишь второе место, и на конкурс поехала поп-группа «Lighthouse X».
Близость к победе прибавила сил перспективной исполнительнице, и на следующий год она снова отправилась на Dansk Melodi Grand Prix уже с новой композицией - Where I Am, авторами которой стали сама Аня, участница проекта «The X Factor» Angel Tupai и Майкл Д’Арси. 64% голосов на окончательном голосовании принесли Ани победу в национальном отборочном туре и возможность выступить за Данию на .
