In this matter, it is necessary to be picky and selective, since the quality of the owner’s sleep and his life in general depends on their choice. Currently, a bed made of solid wood stands out and is very popular, since it has a huge number of advantages unique to it.

It is known that wooden models have many types, shades and types, therefore, such beds will fit perfectly into any room and will suit any apartment interior. Shades are divided into two types: dark (cherry, walnut) and light (oak, sapwood). In addition, even a homemade bed can be easily cleaned with a regular damp cloth or vacuum cleaner, which is very convenient and practical. It can be varnished to ensure that the furniture is protected and has a shine.

Do not forget that different types of wood have different prices. For example, oak or redwood will cost significantly more than regular softwood.

It is the elite species that give furniture an elegant, rich appearance. Such models do not contain toxic substances, therefore, they are not harmful to health.

Conifers, for example, emit a special smell that gives the room a special atmosphere and comfort. Another plus is that it can be assembled and disassembled endlessly, and at the same time it will not break and will serve for many years as beautiful and durable furniture.

What is better to make it from?

A wooden bed is the key to a good and comfortable sleep, since the material from which it is made is environmentally friendly, reliable and does not harm human health. In order for the furniture to be truly high-quality, you need to understand exactly what model you want, draw a suitable sketch and choose the desired type of wood.

From timber

This material is one of the most popular on the modern market, as it combines strength and beautiful appearance. A bed made of this material will interest even the most picky buyer, since the timber is endowed with such qualities as a high degree of environmental friendliness, practicality and luxury. Such models are usually equipped with a finish in the form of carvings or regular upholstery, which looks no less rich.

Such furniture made from bars will look quite advantageous in a nursery, since this is where the child will spend most of his time. Another convenient option would be a loft bed. This two-tier design will help accommodate two children and save space, which is so necessary for small apartments. Perhaps the simplest option for making a structure is a podium bed.

But it should be noted that it requires a large area so that such a bed looks impressive and does not interfere with movement around the room.

From boards

Very often in stores you can find beds made of very fragile materials. That is why it is worth thinking about making high-quality furniture from boards yourself. Such a model, as a rule, is not inferior in price to the simplest model sold in any furniture store.

From the array

A good bed should not only bring aesthetic pleasure, but also have a beneficial effect on a person’s health and condition. These are the sensations that the owner of furniture made from solid wood can experience. First, you still need to decide on the choice of wood, since there are more than a dozen types. The durability of the bed and its external component depend on this decision. The main species are pine, alder, oak, beech and ash.

From logs

Some people prefer orthopedic beds or large sofas, but there are also those who like a rustic style and a bed made from logs. Such furniture will fit perfectly into a country house; it has a rather massive appearance, but despite this, it is very original and interesting in its own way. Perfectly polished logs, coupled with an original design, will bring its inherent uniqueness to the bedroom.

A very interesting fact is that when making such a bed with your own hands, nothing supernatural is required; you only need basic knowledge of working with tools and a step-by-step diagram for constructing such a structure.

From pine

Such beds are gaining more and more popularity every day, since their appearance is presentable, and the pine frame has a maximum level of strength. Due to its texture and color, it acquires a certain sophistication and beauty, and also has a pleasant pine smell. It is pine structures that are durable, as they are ideally sanded and varnished, and have characteristics such as a low degree of rotting and resistance to fungi.

An excellent solution would be a bed placed in a children's room.

In addition, you can make models with drawers, double, bunk or single with your own hands.

From oak

This material is the key to durability. A bed made of oak may become a family heirloom in the future, as it will be passed down from generation to generation. It has a rich and luxurious appearance. Oak combines a huge number of advantages. This is, first of all, environmentally friendly and does not harm human health. It is impossible not to mention the aesthetic component. The patterns created by nature give the bed a magnificent and luxurious appearance.

Models

The bed, as a rule, is the central and main part of the bedroom. It is those models that are made of wood that are distinguished not only by their beauty, but also by their high environmental friendliness. In order not to get confused and choose a really high-quality bed, you need to consider a number of existing models.

Double

This bed is the main place where a married couple spends time in the bedroom. It is here that the family spends all the most romantic moments and simply relaxes from everyday work. It will add nobility and luxury to any room. Also, a double wooden bed is usually decorated with various patterns, lines and ornaments of various motifs. Another great option for spouses would be a bed made of light wood, decorated with stone or glass. It will be more appropriate in an interior made in the Baroque or Rococo style.

If the bedroom is made in the Provence style, a light-colored bed, decorated with carvings and emphasizing the spirit of the French village, will fit perfectly into it. For an oriental interior, a low bed made of solid cherry will be suitable, which will emphasize the simplicity and asceticism acceptable only for this style.

Fans of minimalism will like furniture in the Art Nouveau style, which does not have sharp corners or joints. It is distinguished by its conciseness, simplicity, coupled with comfort and safety.

A lift-up bed, inside of which there is space for storing linen and other things, will help save space.

Such models are very practical, convenient, comfortable and reliable, and also save as much as possible on the available square meters of a small room. A bunk bed will fit perfectly into a nursery designed for two children. We can say with confidence that such furniture combines an interesting design that every child will like, and durability, which is very important.

It is impossible not to mention that a two-story bed has a significant number of advantages:

  • This model saves a lot of space and looks quite neat and beautiful indoors.
  • It can be purchased by those who have a small apartment.
  • Its interesting design attracts children's interest and later becomes the main place for games.
  • Almost every model has pull-out shelves for storing things. And some even position themselves as a transformable bed, part of which turns into a comfortable workplace. This is especially convenient for schoolchildren.
  • In terms of price, such furniture will be cheaper than purchasing two different beds.

carved

Such furniture has been and is valued at all times. It emphasizes the special status of the owners, gives the room nobility, luxury and comfort. In addition, it can be passed on from generation to generation. Among the advantages, it is necessary to highlight the main ones:

  • It will emphasize the refined taste of the owner, closely bordering on impeccability and aesthetics. Carved patterns will undoubtedly bring notes of nobility and grace to the room.
  • Solid wood is known to make a room as cozy as possible, and we can confidently say that any guest who sees such beauty will feel at home.
  • Another feature is the exclusivity of such furniture. After all, the carving is unique and the design is made in a single copy.
  • Wooden carved beds are an all-time classic. It will definitely never go out of style.
  • Such furniture is quite diverse, since it is made from different solids and has different unique carvings.

With drawers

These beds are divided into single and double beds and have different volumes of built-in drawers. Drawers can be pull-out or mounted on guides. If you are not afraid of damaging the floor covering, a retractable mechanism would be an excellent choice. This model is also suitable for a child’s room, since inside you can store not only linen, but also toys or winter outerwear.

It will be very convenient for a schoolchild to use it, who can easily transform the drawers into a place for notebooks or books, thereby saving space on the desktop.

Cot

It is one of the most important and necessary items for a child. The most suitable option for this age category is a wooden bed, which is strong, durable and easy to maintain. There are also models for newborns that are equipped with a changing table. Such cribs can later serve as a regular playpen for a child.

And with the help of the built-in pendulum mechanism, parents can easily rock their child to sleep.

Dimensions

It is important to know that any bed must be ideally suited to a person’s height and weight. The main thing in this design is the bottom and its height. And if in childhood the safety of the structure, for example, the presence of sides, can also be considered mandatory, then with age some points simply disappear due to irrelevance, and you will already need to think about a large bed with an original design that should fit well into the interior.

The sizes are usually uniform and standard. Beds for children are selected solely according to the child’s height:

  • Up to 3 years The best option would be a bed measuring 120x60 cm and 120x65 cm. If a child is small in stature, he can use such furniture for up to 5 years.
  • From 3 to 5 years beds 140x70 cm, 160x70 cm, 80x190-195 cm are suitable.
  • A child who goes to school you can purchase a model 80x190 cm or 90x200 cm. This is a standard single bed. Another excellent option would be a size of 100 x 100 cm or 150 x 150 cm. In such a bed, a teenager will feel as free and relaxed as possible.

Adult models can be single, half-tone or double:

  • Single have a width of 50-80 cm and a length of 170-200 cm;
  • One and a half vary from 100 x 180 cm to 120 x 200 cm;
  • Double, as a rule, have dimensions from 160 x 180 cm to 200 x 220 cm.

Parts and drawings for manufacturing

Everyone wants to buy the perfect bed, but this one usually has a high price, therefore, not everyone can afford such luxury. But there is always a way out. It is necessary to buy the necessary materials and study in detail the assembly of wooden furniture. Only after analyzing all the nuances and subtleties can you assemble the bed of your dreams with your own hands. First we need to delve into some details.

There are a lot of reasons for making a bed with your own hands, among them is the desire to make something different and original, or a non-standard mattress size. It should be noted that at the initial stage you need to choose the size of the desired design and decide whether it will be a single or double bed. You can also determine the width and comfort zone using the following formula: lying face up, close your fingers, throw back your elbows and add 12-15 cm on both sides. A comfortable length is a person’s height plus 20 cm. Do not forget about weight and it is important to consider how many people will presumably fit on one bed.

When selecting materials, you also need to take into account all these features.

The most popular material for making a frame is solid wood, since it is easy to process and looks much more luxurious than, for example, metal. The headboard is usually made of chipboard and held together with regular glue. For the bottom you need to purchase slats. Of course, you can make them yourself, but then the design will be devoid of orthopedic properties. We must not forget about the details that hold the materials together. The most popular are ordinary self-tapping screws about 6 mm long, which have a rough surface and instantly come into contact with the glue.

Metal corners are another help in creating a bed. When purchasing, pay attention to their texture; it should not be chipped or jagged. The same goes for regular nails. The clamping device will help to tightly connect all the parts and all the details. With it you can achieve a high degree of connection and strength. A double bed, as a rule, consists of a frame, two backs, a headboard and a side, inside it there is a frame made of timber. If you want to achieve greater rigidity, the spar - the main strength element - will come to the rescue.

To successfully create a quality bed, you need to follow some of the points below.

Corners and edges

Thanks to the metal corners, you can easily fasten different parts of the beams. Also, no less reliable fasteners are dowels or edges, that is, wooden nails.

Back

Its design and external characteristics generally depend only on personal taste and wishes. The cross beams are connected with self-tapping screws and glue. Holes are made in the middle for the load-bearing element, exactly repeating the dimensions of the spar. But the distance between them should not exceed 45 mm. The average thickness of the array, as a rule, should not exceed 50 mm. And the width of the backrest must be equal to the width of the mattress. Other options will only cause discomfort and inconvenience.

Assembly

A bed assembled with your own hands is almost no different from a purchased one only if it is brought to ideal mechanical and visual condition. Below are detailed tips for making such a design:

  • We attach the backrest to the bed with legs and prop it up. We install the frames, check the diagonals, frame and corners for inconsistencies and irregularities.
  • We mark the approximate location of the dowels. Then we make holes in the drawer. Everything is designed, the base is assembled - some parts are driven into the groove and glued together.
  • We move the rope located on the drawer to the side, and place a wooden beam in the middle to pull this rope. We leave this design for 5 days.
  • We fix the flooring with glue or ordinary nails.

If you follow all the tips, you can make a bed with your own hands that is not inferior in quality to those purchased in stores. Even with minimal experience in working with such structures, if desired, you will get a beautiful and comfortable sleeping place.

How to update?

Currently, there is a huge variety of options for decorating a bed that will fit perfectly into any existing type of interior. Over the years, every owner has the idea of changing something, but not making it a grand event, but just slightly updating the furniture, giving it a completely new look. All of the decoration options below have similar elements, but differ in theme.

French style

The main attributes are flowers and monograms, gracefully decorating the head of the bed. Flowers, for example, can be cut out of a piece of plywood and then painted with paints so that they fit perfectly into the interior design. Forged monograms are usually complemented by a beautiful garland, emphasizing originality and grace.

Oriental

In order to make an apartment in this style, you will need a screen. It is she who gives the room a certain grace and intimacy. If there is no screen, you can purchase any detail associated with the East, for example, attach a large fan to the footboard, which will not only decorate the room, but also hide some defects of old furniture.

Country

This solution consists entirely of environmentally friendly materials and will appeal to almost every owner. Wooden boards, various canvases, an imitation of a fence on the headboard - all this is as close as possible to natural conditions.

Limitless fantasy

Using mirrors, you can make a spectacular panel that can impress everyone who sees such a decorative solution for the bed. Also, the bedroom area can be covered with wallpaper that matches the shade of the bed.

Bedroom ideas

Modern fashion trends dictate a style that cannot be ignored. Every apartment owner wants to make something non-standard, original and unique out of the existing premises. An ordinary wooden bed is, of course, a classic, but it can be improved with the help of various interior items or improved thanks to skillfully selected details. Do not forget that this particular type of furniture should be combined with the interior as much as possible, since it immediately attracts the attention of both owners and guests.

This bed looks quite elegant and beautiful, there are no clutter in it, only clear straight lines. Canopy slats and lamps perfectly complement this design, making it textured and stylish.

This model with a ledge is very convenient and no less interesting. You can squat on the same ledge, as a result of which the mattress increases its service life and has virtually no dents. Coupled with the right interior design, such a bed can become the central and, perhaps, the most important subject of your attention. A simple bed can be updated with a painted antique headboard. It will become an extravagant and somewhat unique element. It is this detail, together with color paintings, that can add zest to the room and fill it with comfort.

Such a white bed will become a symbol of purity, nobility and spirituality. It seems to distract from all worries and puts a person in a kind of trance due to the colors and high level of softness. Pillows and a sky-colored bedspread can add accents to the room, which are sometimes so lacking. This color scheme can not only make the room beautiful, but also bring some peace to it. Shades of gray and brown are an excellent harmonious combination. A wooden bed, the textiles of which are designed in this palette, will be an excellent addition to the entire interior concept.

This model will not leave indifferent those who value coziness, warmth and comfort. Being in such a room, you can relax not only physically, but also spiritually. Brown muted colors, lamps, lack of contrasts and bright elements - all this will help a person take a break from hectic everyday life and enjoy relaxation. This massive bed will bring a certain efficiency and luxury to the room. Thanks to its rough protrusions and massiveness, it will ennoble the room in which it is located. In addition, drawers will help save space as much as possible and make it more functional.

The furniture market offers a large selection of beds, but you can make this interior element yourself.

The article describes how to make a double bed from available materials and components. Solid wood furniture can be inexpensive.

If you are a fan of the old fashioned and at the same time have welding skills, you can make a bed for a country house, a private house or a city apartment from a profile pipe, and decorate the headboard with elements of decorative forging. We will consider a more affordable and simpler option for creating bedroom furniture, and we suggest you make a wooden bed from materials that are absolutely safe for health. Below are drawings of the simplest options that even a novice master can easily handle.

Materials and tools

You will need:

  • assembly diagram;
  • sheet plywood;
  • PVA glue;
  • wooden beam;
  • slats;
  • self-tapping screws (70 pieces).

You will need laminated pine timber with a smooth, defect-free surface, measuring 4 x 5 x 200 cm (14 pcs.). The size of the planed slats is 2 x 10 x 200 cm (20 pcs.). Before making a bed, you need to buy a sleeping mattress 160 x 200 cm, and make a base for it.

Assembling a double bed

The rectangular frame is assembled from beams. It is necessary to take three bars on each side and fasten them together in height. You will get an equilateral rectangle. If there are concerns that the mattress will not fit, it is recommended to assemble the frame with an allowance of 1 cm on each side.

2 bars with a cross section of 4 x 5 cm, a length of 162 cm (ends) and the same parts with a length of 201 cm (sides) are laid out on the floor, coated with PVA glue. Immediately after this, the second row of bars is laid on top. Then all parts are fixed with self-tapping screws. The bed crowns must not be allowed to become skewed; they must be perfectly even.

At the corners, the parts are connected using metal ties. When tightening the screws, the glue that has not had time to set will leak out through the holes, so the wood must be cleaned of its excess.

The assembled frame can be set aside and you can begin to create an orthopedic slatted base from treated boards 2 cm thick. The slats must be reinforced with a stiffening rib; it must run through the center of the bed along its entire length. There should be at least 2-3 legs. It is also necessary to make 4 legs for the frame. Subsequently, they are installed in the corners and securely fixed with fasteners.

For a bed made of boards you need a base made of slats or slats. The supports are made from wooden beams. The timber is cut into lengths corresponding to each side of the bed. The support beams are attached at the level of the second row of the frame along the entire internal perimeter. The thickness of the supporting element is sufficient for the thin slatted base to rest firmly and reliably on it.

It is recommended to plan the length of the slats with the expectation that a deformation gap should form between them and the frame, preventing cracking of the natural material and eliminating its creaking. It is better to attach the slats at a distance of 20–30 cm from each other. The step between them should be the same; a template may come in handy. The slats are fixed using self-tapping screws, which are screwed along the edges to the base and in the center to the stiffener. After this, the homemade bed should sit for several days until the glue dries completely.

Next comes decorative processing. First, all parts are sanded with a grinder or grinder, including a coarse-grain attachment. Then, using fine-grained sandpaper, a final sanding is carried out along the wood fibers.

After grinding and polishing, dust generated during the processing process is removed.. The room where paint and varnish work will be carried out must be wet cleaned.

The furniture is coated with a primer designed to protect the wood. The varnish is applied on top in stages in 2-3 layers using a spray gun to ensure uniform coverage.

You can also use a brush with fine bristles.

During the varnishing process, the bed must be turned over and each layer allowed to dry.

Headboard assembly

For work you will need a sheet of thick plywood. The result is a plywood element that does not bear any special mechanical load. Its strength is quite sufficient. You also need thick upholstery fabric, foam rubber, synthetic padding, and a furniture stapler with staples.

A rectangle of the required size is cut from a plywood sheet using a jigsaw. A layer of foam rubber of any thickness of similar size is placed on top of it. Foam rubber can be covered with padding polyester. Then the headboard is covered with furniture upholstery fabric.

The piece of fabric should extend onto the back wall by at least 15–20 cm.

When fixing upholstery with a stapler, it is necessary to ensure that the fabric is evenly stretched, without creases or unsightly folds on the front surface. The headboard is attached to the wall or bed frame. In the first case, the part is equipped with special ear loops. They are hung on self-tapping screws installed in the wall. If the headboard is fixed to the back of the bed, holes are made in its lower part, as in the base of the furniture. Screws are screwed into them, clamped with nuts.

According to the same scheme, a single bed can also be equipped with a headboard. Curly headboards decorated using the carriage screed technique will look good. In this case, you will need a stencil, furniture buttons, and decorative nails.

There are many types of carriage ties; if you wish, you can choose the one that will decorate the bed, emphasize the style of the room, and make it more expressive.

If the household has high-quality lumber or sheets of laminated chipboard, it is much cheaper to assemble a wooden bed with your own hands than to buy a finished product at a furniture store. We bring to your attention several different projects and manufacturing instructions.

Design options - drawings and diagrams

For a skilled owner, the process of assembling a bed will not be a particular problem. Regardless of the type of product, the design is a power frame supported by legs and equipped with restrictive elements - a headboard and a backrest. The mattress is supported by transverse slats - lamellas.

Note. If necessary, the sleeping place can be supplemented with drawers, a lifting mechanism and side stops.

There are several bed options available for making at home:

  • classic single;
  • double;
  • two-tier;
  • a variety of cribs.

The most popular option is a soft double bed. Even a simple factory product assembled from laminated chipboard costs a lot of money. You can independently build a more reliable and cheaper wooden structure, shown in the drawing.

A budget version of a double bed, made from 16 mm thick laminated chipboard, is shown in the following diagram. Wood-shaving sheets in this design simultaneously play the role of legs, backs and stiffeners. The mattress tray does not have to be made from laminated chipboard; boards will also do.

Advice. Before you make a bed with your own hands, clearly decide on the dimensions. It is better to be guided by the mattress that you are going to buy. The minimum dimensions of the sleeping place are 190 x 150 cm.

The design of a single bed, assembled from solid wood, is similar to a double bed, only smaller in size. The product consists of a frame and two backrests with legs; the orthopedic mattress is placed on transverse slats, as shown in the sketch.

A two-story wooden bed, shown in the drawing below, will help save space in a small room. Its base is 4 racks made of timber, connected by two boxes and additional stiffeners. The structure can be assembled from chipboard, but the material consumption will be too large, since you will need a solid back wall made of a single sheet.

Assembling a double bed

The easiest and cheapest way to make bedroom furniture is from wood - the material can be easily processed and decorated in a style that matches the design of the room. If you are an experienced craftsman who constantly works with metal, you can make the version with forged products shown in the photo.

We propose to assemble a simple wooden bed designed for two adults. Dimensions - 220 x 180 cm, internal dimensions for a high spring mattress - 2100 x 1700 mm. The design of the headboard is arbitrary; it is not necessary to repeat the decor shown in the photo.

Advice. It is also not necessary to repeat our instructions exactly. Select the dimensions individually and sketch out your own drawing according to your wishes. Keep in mind one subtlety: if you design the structure too low (or without legs), then it will not be easy to remove dust under it.

Preparing materials

To assemble a box with a pallet, which acts as a frame, you will need the following materials:

  • 15 blanks 220 cm long from dried timber 5 x 5 cm;
  • 20 two-meter boards with a section of 120 x 20 mm;
  • furniture glue (PVA is also suitable);
  • zinc coated wood screws 3.5 x 40 and 3.5 x 65 mm;
  • stain, clear varnish and brush.

Before assembly, surfaces and ends must be thoroughly sanded.

In addition to standard carpentry tools, it is advisable to acquire a grinding machine, or, as a last resort, purchase an attachment for a drill. Boards and beams should be cut to the specified dimensions and all front parts of the timber should be sanded in advance.

Procedure

To create a frame from side panels 15 cm high, you need to fasten the beams together in 3 pieces, and then connect them using the tongue-and-groove method. The progress of making a double bed with your own hands looks like this:

Advice. Place 1-2 additional legs on the central panel to support the middle part of the bed.

When making a backrest at the headboard, show your imagination. You can make an unusual carved headrest attached to the wall, or assemble the backrest from sanded boards and varnish it. Watch the video for a master class on how to assemble a double bed yourself:

A single bed is made in a similar way, only without a central crosspiece. There is an alternative option: make 2 single beds with separate mattresses - if necessary, they can be moved together to create a full double bed.

Soft covering and installation of the lifting mechanism

To make the back of the product comfortable and similar to a sofa, you can make it from ordinary chipboard and make it upholstered with soft upholstery. Measure the finished panel and buy the required amount of foam rubber 10-20 mm thick plus upholstery fabric. The covering is done as follows:

Note. The upholstery technique will help to refine a bed made of chipboard. The assembly technology is simple: drawers and backs are cut out, which are then fastened with corners and screws. The supporting part of the mattress is made of wooden slats, as described above.

A folding bed allows you to store bed linen, pillows and other things inside the bed. What you need to do:

To organize an internal cabinet, it is advisable to make a pallet from sheets of plywood or fiberboard attached to the frame elements. How such a bed is made is described in the following video:

Useful and original additions

The folding bed, which has to be raised and lowered, can be replaced with drawers made from scrap materials - boards, chipboard or plywood. To implement your idea, you need to purchase a special furniture set, including wheels, guides and fasteners.

Manufacturing is carried out according to the presented drawing in the following order:

There is a more original solution - installing a homemade bed on a high podium and installing ordinary opening cabinets underneath it. For ease of climbing, a ladder is attached to the side of the fence, as shown in the diagram.

A transformable bed is an excellent functional solution for a cramped apartment or country house with small rooms. The idea is as follows: the bed is removed together with the mattress inside a wall-mounted chest of drawers or transformed into a cabinet using powerful lifting mechanisms. The task is complicated by the purchase of such devices and proper installation, which is best left to a specialist.

If you wish, you can implement a newfangled design sophistication - decorate the bed with a canopy. The photo shows an example of a double bed surrounded by high posts, which are united at the top by crossbars. The design is extremely clear - a spatial frame is assembled from bars, onto which a translucent fabric is thrown.

Conclusion

The design of a homemade bed can be improved endlessly - making several tiers, adding bedside tables and shelves, changing the traditional shape to a round one, and so on. It all depends on the level of your skill, the availability of materials and imagination. The area of the room plays an important role - it is difficult to place a large bed inside a small room. For such cases, 2-tier beds were invented, whose assembly is the topic of a separate publication.

Handmade furniture items are becoming increasingly popular. These unique items are made taking into account a specific interior and fit into it perfectly. Of course, you can order a bed according to individual sizes and with clear wishes to the manufacturing company, but the price will be quite high. Therefore, this article will discuss how to make a double bed with your own hands.

If you have welding skills, the bed frame can be made from a profile pipe, and the backrest can be decorated with decorative forging elements. But we will look at a simpler and accessible way for everyone to make a double bed from wood. In this case, only materials that are harmless to health will be used, for example, PVA glue. It will take at least 7 - 10 days to completely assemble the bed. On the Internet you can find a large number of drawings and diagrams of a double bed with your own hands; let’s consider the simplest option.

Materials, tools and drawings for a double bed

To start making a bed, you need to prepare everything you need:

  • diagram of a double bed for assembly with your own hands, which contains details of all elements and sizes;
  • sheet plywood;
  • metal corners;
  • large jar of PVA glue;
  • nails or screws;
  • beam;
  • pins.

DIY drawing of a double bed photo

Now it’s time to prepare the preparations:

  • timber is selected with a cross-section of 4x5 cm in the amount of 14 pieces. It must be absolutely smooth and durable, so it makes sense to give preference to laminated pine. Length 200-210 cm;
  • cut and planed slats 2x10 cm, length 2 m 20 pcs.

Advice: you should first purchase a mattress and only then start assembling the frame. The fact is that it often differs from the declared dimensions by 1 - 2 cm.

  • If you plan to make drawers for a double bed with your own hands, then you need to additionally buy chipboard sheets for them.
  • Fastening elements should be purchased with a reserve; to assemble a wooden bed you will not need expensive fasteners. 70 pieces are enough. wood screws 6 cm long.

Tip: when choosing metal corners, pay attention to their bends, or rather to the bases of the bends. If there is roughness on them, this indicates their low quality. Raw materials made from such raw metal may begin to crack during use.

DIY double bed made of wood

  • First, a rectangular frame is assembled. Each side consists of three beams connected in height, which makes the base as rigid as possible. The result should be an even rectangle, the internal dimensions of which correspond to the dimensions of the mattress. If there is a risk of making less than necessary, then it is advisable to leave an allowance of 1 cm on all sides.

  • To do this, take a 4x5 cm beam and cut it into 2 parts 1620 mm (taking into account allowances of 1 cm on each side of the base) and 2 parts 2100 mm (2020 mm +2 * 40mm). Everything must be done as accurately as possible, otherwise it will not be possible to connect all the parts. They are laid out on the floor, and PVA furniture glue is applied to the first row.
  • The second row of timber is immediately placed on top and secured with self-tapping screws. It is very important that the bars are level and that there is no distortion when fastening the crowns. It is most convenient to check the correctness of the rectangular shape of the future bed frame using a tape measure or twine, measuring the lengths diagonally.
  • When tightening the screws, excess glue will invariably come out. They must be removed immediately, without allowing the composition to set. Otherwise, they will greatly spoil the appearance of the bed, interfering with high-quality surface treatment.
  • The orthopedic slatted base, which is assembled from slats 2 cm thick, is too weak to withstand the load of a double mattress and two people, so it is necessary to make a stiffening rib in the center. It runs along the bed and should have a pair of legs.
  • Another 4 legs are made in each of the corners of the frame. To do this, take two pieces of the required length of timber 4x5 cm and fasten them together with self-tapping screws, first coating the seams with glue. And they are securely attached to the rectangular frame. Now you can turn the base over and install it on the legs.
  • Based on the drawings of a double bed, which is made with your own hands from wood, supports are prepared for the slatted base. From the same timber from which the perimeter of the frame was made, sections are cut equal to the internal length of the sides of the bed.
  • Considering that the frame has a thickness of three rows, the support beam is attached at the level of the second row along the entire internal perimeter. Its thickness is enough to attach an orthopedic base made of thin slats to it.

Advice: it is better to make the length of the slats a little shorter so that there is a deformation gap between them and the frame. This will protect the wood from cracking or possible squeaking.

  • The slats are attached in increments of 15 to 30 mm. It should be the same, so it’s convenient to prepare a template. They are fixed in three places - along the edges and along the axial stiffener. There are two self-tapping screws in each place.
  • Then it is left for a while so that the glue dries completely.
  • After this, the final processing begins. First, the entire surface, including the legs, is sanded. If you don’t have a special grinder, you can use a grinder with an appropriate attachment (coarse-grained). After this, the treatment is carried out with fine-grained sandpaper using movements along the wood fibers.
  • After making sure that the surface of the bed is smooth, you should carefully remove all dust from the surface and wash the room in which sanding was carried out. Otherwise, small particles will settle on the fresh paint and ruin the appearance of the bed.
  • For painting, it is best to choose a high-quality abrasion-resistant varnish. First, the frame is coated with a protective primer for wood, and then the required number of layers of varnish are applied one by one (minimum 3). If it is not possible to use a spray gun, you need to buy a special varnish brush with very fine bristles. During this work, you will have to turn the bed over to apply the coating on all sides.
  • At the same stage, you can think about and at the same time paint the headboard if it is also made of wood.

DIY headboard for a double bed

The headboard is an integral element of the bed. It’s not enough just to assemble a mattress frame; you also need to create a beautiful design that will fit into the bedroom interior and create a cozy atmosphere.
When designing the appearance of your headboard, you should ensure that it is comfortable to lean on while reading before bed. And at the same time, it will not wear out or change its appearance during long-term use.

Soft rectangular headboard for a double bed

Even a woman can do it with her own hands, with the bare minimum of tools. It will be a simple rectangular shape, upholstered in beautiful fabric.
To work you will need:

  • a piece of plywood of the required size;
  • durable fabric;
  • foam rubber and synthetic winterizer;
  • construction stapler with staples.

Stages of work

  • Take a sheet of plywood. If its dimensions differ from the required ones, then all excess is cut off with a jigsaw. Foam rubber is cut out and laid on top. Its thickness depends on individual preferences.
  • An ironed piece of fabric is placed on top. It must have sufficient allowances to go around the plywood sheet with foam rubber and extend onto the back wall by at least 15 cm.
  • First, one side is secured with a stapler. Then they begin all subsequent ones, while creating the necessary tension. Once the sides are secured, it is recommended to turn the headboard over to ensure there are no folds or too little tension.
  • Literally in 2 hours the headboard is ready. It can be attached directly to the wall. To do this, metal eye-loops are screwed to it on the reverse side, with which it will cling to the screws in the wall (this canopy method will not work if the wall is made of plasterboard without a mortgage).

Soft figured headboard for bed

It is much more complex in execution, but the end result will add luxury to the bedroom. It will require:

  • plywood;
  • chalk or soap with a sharp edge for marking on fabric;
  • universal glue, suitable for gluing both fabric and foam rubber;
  • construction stapler;
  • foam;
  • furniture nails;
  • decorative material for upholstery.

Stages of work

  • First, a sketch of the form is made. A stencil is prepared using it in full size. Such a visual paper blank is also needed in order to confidently assess whether such a headboard will suit the design of the room.
  • Using a stencil, a part is cut out of plywood with a jigsaw and from foam rubber. Glue is applied to the surface of the plywood sheet, especially carefully on all edges, and foam rubber is glued. Along the edge, for greater reliability, it can be fixed with a stapler.

  • A piece of decorative fabric is placed on top and stapled along the edge. After this, the headboard is turned over and the remaining allowances of material are nailed onto the back side into tension. If the base has rounded shapes, the fabric allowances should be cut to the edge of the plywood in 5 cm increments.
  • To cover the fasteners from the stapler on the front side and further decorate the headboard, take decorative twine and nail it along the contour onto furniture nails. If the design provides for the additional use of decorative elements, then the markings for them are first applied with chalk.
  • The reverse side can also be covered with fabric, cutting it out a little smaller than the shape requires. The edges are pre-folded and stitched.
  • The finished headboard is either hung on the wall or simply placed on the floor and pressed against the bed.

Upholstered headboard for a bed using the carriage screed technique

This is a popular and stylish design that can often be found on luxury bed models in stores.

To work you need to prepare:

  • plywood;
  • foam;
  • padding polyester
  • construction stapler;
  • pencil;
  • textile;
  • decorative lace;
  • decorative large buttons.

Stages of work

  • Foam rubber is glued to a sheet of plywood. In order for the final result to be beautiful, the foam layer must be at least 5 cm.
  • On a sheet of paper corresponding to the size of the headboard, markings are drawn in the form of squares. It marks the places where the buttons will be located. At this point, holes are cut out on the sheet and applied again to the headboard from the foam side. And they make marks with a pencil.
  • In these places, make through holes on the foam rubber and plywood, the diameter of which is smaller than the buttons. To do this, use a drill or screwdriver with the necessary attachment.

Tip: to create an even softer and more pleasant-to-touch surface, it is recommended to place a layer of padding polyester on top of the foam rubber. Holes are also made on it in the places where the buttons are attached.

  • The top of the headboard is covered with decorative fabric using a stapler.
  • Thick ropes are threaded through the button eyelet. Having felt the holes for them with your hand, a thin incision is made in the fabric in this place to thread the rope, and pulled through. The button should press the fabric with the foam tightly and rest against the plywood. The ropes are tied on the reverse side and the ends are nailed with a stapler. For ease of work, it is recommended to use a hook.

Bed headboard made of rags

For a rustic-style bedroom, a homemade headboard made from multi-colored rags looks especially good. And if you use noble fabrics using the same technique, and make the flaps themselves larger in size, then it will fit even into the most luxurious interiors.
To work you will need:

  • the required number of sheets of plywood (one the size of the headboard remains solid);
  • saw or jigsaw;
  • scissors;
  • foam;
  • stapler;
  • glue;
  • screwdriver;
  • textile;
  • self-tapping screws

Stages of work

  • We line the plywood into the required number of squares. Then it is laid on supports and cut with a jigsaw or saw.
  • Foam rubber is cut to size of plywood blanks. Fabric parts are cut out with an allowance of 10-15 cm.
  • Foam rubber is glued to the plywood. The fabric is placed on top, and pulling it tightly, I fix it only on the reverse side with a stapler. In this way, all elements of the future headboard are prepared.

  • The resulting squares are placed face down on the clean floor. They are temporarily fixed together with double-sided tape. A solid sheet of plywood is placed on top, which will become the basis for attaching individual elements. Using self-tapping screws and a screwdriver, the squares are screwed to it.
  • By turning the product over, the adhesive tape is removed. That's it, the work is finished.

Double bed with lifting mechanism

This bed is especially convenient for a small bedroom. The lifting mechanism has a number of advantages:

  • there is free space under the double bed. This is a fairly spacious place that can be used at your discretion;
  • Under the bed you can store all your bedding and other things. There is no need to buy a chest of drawers or a wardrobe;
  • The lifting mechanism is easy to use; even a child can lift it;
  • an ideal solution for a minimalist interior;
  • the space under the bed will not become a storage area for dust and children’s toys will not get there;
  • By making a lift-up double bed with your own hands, you will get both a bed and a wardrobe at an affordable price.

DIY double bed. Drawings

Making it is not difficult, just buy the necessary parts to assemble the frame on hinges. The choice of lifting structures and parts for them is quite diverse, and it will not be difficult to choose the appropriate option.
The lift bed will consist of:

  • frame;
  • lifting mechanism;
  • accessories;
  • mattress.

Main options for lifting mechanisms:

  • gas shock absorber. This is the most expensive option, but reliable and easy to use. Since it requires the least amount of effort to lift, this will be the best option for a heavy double bed;
  • spring mechanism. Its execution is simpler, therefore the price is lower and more affordable. Initially, the reliability of such a mechanism is high, but with prolonged use the springs can be damaged. But replacing them is not difficult, and the cost of repairs will be minimal. The main disadvantage is considered to be too heavy lifting, so it is better not to choose it for a double or children's bed;
  • on hinges. The most primitive and cheapest option. But since the hinges do not even partially take on the load of lifting the structure, they are unacceptable for a double bed that is planned to be raised frequently.

Having decided on the size of the bed and the type of lifting mechanism, you need to make a drawing of the future design:

  • First of all, the material for the bed frame is selected. It is best to choose light wood or durable and high-quality MDF. In production, it can be covered with film with any design or painted;
  • you can make an orthopedic base yourself from slats 2 cm thick or buy a ready-made one;
  • the mattress is selected according to individual wishes;
  • The lifting mechanism is only suitable with gas shock absorbers.

Based on this data, a drawing is prepared and according to it, cutting and preparation of all structural elements and fasteners begins. The following video shows detailed instructions on how to assemble a bed with a lifting mechanism with your own hands.

Every person spends a third of his life sleeping, and his condition depends on good rest at such a time. The quality of rest at night depends on the comfort of the body position that the bed provides.

Nowadays in furniture stores it is possible to choose any model of bed, but there are many reasons why many non-people cannot purchase the model they like. So the question often arises of how to make a bed with your own hands and at the same time save quite a good amount.

Types of bed models

Before you settle on a specific bed model that you want to make, you need to know about some of them. This is necessary so that you can evaluate all the nuances of the design and evaluate your strengths and capabilities. Furniture designers and constructors have developed a large number of variations, and most of them can be made independently.

The main difficulty of the self-assembly process is mainly hidden during the preparation and processing of all structural elements, because for such operations you often need to have a special tool. But in any case, to start creating such furniture, you need to familiarize yourself with different models made from different materials.

Bed with drawers

A bed equipped with pull-out drawers can be:

  • double;
  • single;
  • one and a half.

Such bed models are especially in demand in children's rooms, where there are always many toys and other items for activities. This design is convenient because it does not take up free space in the room, and helps create a place to store various items in the room. At the same time, by pulling out such a drawer, you will immediately see what is in it, and you will not need to delve, for example, into the depths of the closet, where it is so difficult to find the things you need.

The design of such a bed is not particularly complex compared to a regular bed. The main thing here is to draw up good drawings, and correctly enter all the dimensions into them, carry out competent processing of the parts that will be intended for assembly, also assemble them well and choose convenient and high-quality fittings. Drawers should open easily, that is, move freely; for this you can use guide-type mechanisms on the sides or attach wheels to the bottom of the drawer.

Hanging beds

This interesting option for a bed is not as difficult to make as you might think. One of the most important requirements that must be met for this design to function effectively is a large amount of free space, because the bed is designed to rock within a certain range.

The sleeping place has a frame, which includes a frame and slats, but it should be taken into account that all elements should be made of high quality material and securely fastened to each other. For such a design, it is necessary to use only light wood so that there is no heavy load on the supports. A mattress that may be overweight should have the same qualities.

Metal beds

Beds that are made from metal corners, strips, rods and fittings can only be made by experienced welders, but this version of the bed can serve you for a long time and will not require repairs, and will not bother you with its creaking. A metal bed will fit especially well into a certain style of your interior, for example, modern, retro or empire.

The heavy-duty and stable design has a light appearance and even seems weightless, so it will fit perfectly into any interior and become its decoration. Most people associate metal with something negative – rust, which can leave stains on a mattress or bed linen. You should not be afraid of this, since in our time technologies are well developed, with the help of which they have developed paints and varnishes that protect not only your bedding, but also metal from corrosion. With this design, the mattress will never sag and will always be well ventilated, because the frame has a high level of rigidity.

Transformer: bed-wardrobe

A bed that can be turned into a wardrobe at any time is an indispensable piece of furniture in small apartments, and this design can also be made with your own hands, you just need to buy a lifting and supporting mechanism. Here you can easily remove the bed and turn it into an imitation of a cabinet or wardrobe.

A transforming bed can be different in size, it can become an imitation of a large wardrobe or become a compact chest of drawers with a table top. The latest model can be used in a children's room, as a main bed or as an extra bed if guests arrive. In addition, in some cases this design is placed on a loggia or on a balcony with insulation, since in the summer it is always pleasant to relax in the fresh air.

The most difficult moments in the manufacture of such a model are the choice of lifting mechanisms, and, of course, high-quality processing of all components so that it can be easily assembled and disassembled, and there are no jams or distortions in the structure.

Podium bed

Another bed variation that will help you save space in a small room is a podium bed. The essence of this design is that the place to sleep does not take up extra space in the room, because the bed can be removed during the day under a podium, which the child can use for games or for activities.

New design solution: podium bed

This model of bed is not difficult to produce, but for such furniture it is necessary to prepare only high-quality materials, and the work will require a lot of time. But in the end you will get an excellent result, because you will have a comfortable place to sleep and an interesting design solution.

In addition to those models that have been listed, the most popular and frequently selected models include:

  • bed with lifting mechanisms;
  • with an orthopedic frame;
  • two-tier;
  • with frames made of wooden slats;
  • bed-sofa and many others.

We will consider some of them in more detail.

Making a bed with your own hands

Classic wooden double bed

This simple bed with standard dimensions is made from natural wood, which can be made with your own hands, purchased ready-made, or ordered to be cut and processed in a carpentry shop. To make a double bed out of wood, you need the following materials:

  • pine beams for legs and boxes, having a cross-section of 50 by 50 mm, their length should be 2200 millimeters in the amount of 15 pieces;
  • wood glue or PVA for furniture;
  • self-tapping screws 40 and 65 mm;
  • metal corners with a shelf width of 50 mm.

The frame that will be produced is intended for a mattress with dimensions of 2000 by 1600 mm, so the space inside should be 2100 by 1700 mm, and the dimensions on the outside should be 2200 by 1800 mm.

Carrying out work

Because the box for bed frames should be 15 cm or 20 cm high, and the width of the walls 5 cm, the beams should be glued together in 3-4 pieces. To do this, the sides of the bars are lubricated with glue, then they are placed one on top of the other, pressed with clamps and left to dry.

After this, the blanks that you glued together should be adjusted to the dimensions you need. Thus, in order to assemble the box, you will need panels for the sides (drawbars) having a length of 2200 mm, one strip of 210 cm for the jumper in the middle, and two jumpers for the ends 161 cm long.

In order to have a reliable locking connection at the corners, 5 cm are measured along the edges at the top and bottom and these fragments are carefully sawed off and removed without removing the middle bar. After this, the parts that protrude from the sides are greased with glue and placed in the gap between the bars on the end panel of the box. They are then compressed with clamps and left to dry.

You can do it differently by using a connection like tying bars. Here the bars are glued into a box already trimmed. The bars of the first row are laid out on a flat floor, forming a rectangle. The sides on the sides should have a length of 210 cm, the end parts 150 cm. The sides of the panel beams are coated with glue, and the bars of the end side of the box are pressed against them, and then they are fastened with self-tapping screws. The angles in the rectangle are set using a construction square and checked by measuring the diagonals, which should be the same length. Then the middle row must be glued to the row below, the length of the bars on the sides should be 220 cm, and the part at the end should be 170 cm. The ends are coated with glue and placed between the other two bars on the sides, then this entire structure is fixed. Then the row in the middle, in addition to glue, is also attached to the bottom row with self-tapping screws. In the very top and last row, the bars should be the same size as the bottom row and they are secured with self-tapping screws under the countersunk and left to dry. This assembly method is more difficult, because if the master does not have some experience, the corners may turn out skewed.

The next step is to secure the element in the middle of the structure. The part is a jumper that glues together two bars that are 200 cm long. Before attaching the jumper, the bed box should be turned over, the end sides are marked so that you can accurately determine the middle. The jumper at the bottom must coincide with the level of the entire box. After this, on the row at the bottom of the box, where the places were marked, you should screw on thrust-type bars, which have a length of 15 cm. They will become a support for the main partition. In order to dock these supporting elements in the lower bar of the jumper, select 5 cm from the edge. The parts are secured with glue and screws. As a support, you can use a metal corner with a 5 cm shelf; you need to drill holes in it for fastening to the walls of the box and to the crossbar. The already finished lintel will serve as an additional base for the boards that will be laid on the box.

This model is equipped with 4 legs in the corners. They should also be secured with bolts or self-tapping screws now, while the box is upside down. Sections of timber measuring 5 by 5 cm are taken as legs. The legs are attached to the structure first with glue, and then with self-tapping screws or bolts through and through, and as an additional fastening it is recommended to use metal corners on both sides. You choose the height of the legs yourself, but in most cases it is 20-30 cm. The lower the legs, the more stable the bed will be, but a small height will complicate the cleaning process.

Also, in order to prevent the central part from sagging, additional supports need to be attached to the jumper in the middle, so the bed will be more reliable and will not lose its rigidity. The support legs in the middle can be secured using different methods.

After the glue has completely dried, you can turn the box over into the correct position and place it on its legs.

Then, on the panels of the box on the sides, lines are marked along which beams or boards will be fixed, having a width of 3 - 4 cm with a thickness of 2.5 - 3 cm. This beam will become the support for installing the floor boards. These boards should be positioned so that they are flush with the lintel in the center. Craftsmen are guided by the gluing lines of the timber from above; if you did everything correctly, then the overall level will be accurate.

The next step is to lay the boards on top of the supporting shelves. The boards should not rest against the sides of the box, otherwise squeaks may occur during operation. So between the box and the boards there should be a small gap of 4 - 5 mm on both sides.

There is no need to lay the boards with a continuous board; they are laid in such a way that there is a distance of 2 - 4 cm between them.

The boards are secured at three points, from the edges to the supporting shelves, and in the center to the longitudinal support. At each point, two screws with a length of 4 cm are screwed in. To prevent cracks from appearing, holes for the screws should first be drilled at the fastening points with a drill with a diameter of 3 mm.

When the installation of the boards is completed, it is necessary to examine all surfaces of the structure. If necessary, remove large burrs, glue leaking from the seams and other defects.

After this, finishing processing of the assembled structure begins. Initially, all surfaces should be brought to a smooth state. For this kind of wood processing, it is best if you use a sanding machine on which sandpaper with the required grit is installed; first use sandpaper 80 - 100, and then 280 - 400.

If you don't have a special tool, you can use an electric drill by simply attaching a sanding attachment to it. After such processing, it is necessary to examine all the details of the product and, if there is a need, process some places manually. Then the entire structure is cleaned of dirt and dust and small sawdust, in other words, the product is prepared for coating.

Before coating the wood with varnish, it must be coated with primer. If you are going to use stain, then it is not necessary to use primer. To do this, use a spray or brush.

Then, if you are going to highlight the texture of the wood, then after the stain has dried, you need to sand all surfaces again.

All sides of the structure should be covered with stain, even those that are not visible. This is necessary because stain is an antiseptic and protects the wood from pests.

The next process is coating the product with varnish. Here, the best choice would be a water-based varnish, especially if you are doing all the work indoors. This type of varnish does not have an unpleasant odor, is environmentally friendly, and after complete drying, your bed will acquire a pleasant matte shine. In order for the bed to look beautiful, you need to apply several layers of varnish and remember that the next layer is applied only after the previous layer has dried.

In between drying layers of varnish, you can make a decorative headboard for the bed. You can take 3 boards with a width of 100 - 120 mm, a length of 160 cm, and 12 pieces of boards with a height of 40 - 46 cm. A lattice is constructed from them and processed in the same way as a bed, and then nailed to the wall.

Double bed with lifting mechanism

Another variation of a double bed is a model made using chipboard. In this design, compared to the previous one, there are no legs, and this makes it much more stable. The positive side of this bed is that you can use the space under it, because it is equipped with lifting mechanisms that make it possible to lift the frame without removing the mattress.

Double bed made of chipboard with a mattress that rises

The negative aspects of this model include its massiveness; it does not make it possible to install it in a small room. In addition, a material such as chipboard cannot be called completely environmentally friendly, because it is produced using binding elements that can emit harmful fumes, which negatively affects people.

It should be borne in mind that when choosing furniture that will be made from DPS, it is necessary to create all the conditions so that the room where the furniture will be located is effectively ventilated. And to make a bed, you need to buy chipboards that have a formaldehyde emission class of E1.

Thus, to make a bed with the usual mattress sizes of 180 by 200 by 20, you should prepare the following materials:

  • DPS slab with a thickness of 1.6 cm and dimensions of 350 by 175 cm;
  • two sheets of fiberboard with a thickness of 0.5 cm, regular size 2745 by 1220 mm;
  • timber with a section of 5 by 5 cm, length 18 meters;
  • board having a thickness of 10-15 mm, width 6 cm, length 20 m or plywood 1 cm, with dimensions 1525 by 1525 mm;
  • lifting mechanism equipped with shock absorbers;
  • bolts and screws;
  • metal corners;
  • fabric to cover the structure, which is 150 cm wide and 500 cm long;
  • padding polyester width 160 cm, length 500 cm;
  • two sheets of foam rubber, thickness 1 cm, dimensions 300 by 100 cm;
  • staples for stapler 8-10 mm.

Having prepared everything you need, you can begin to make the entire structure.

From chipboard having a thickness of 1.6 cm the following is produced:

  • the headboard measures 1080 by 2130 mm, it can be made rounded or with right angles;
  • side panel of the structure 2 pieces, dimensions 2330 by 350 mm;
  • one end panel measuring 2130 by 350 mm;
  • There is one partition inside measuring 2010 by 280 mm.

Elements made of 50 by 50 mm timber, which are fixed in the box:

  • longitudinal parts, they are fixed to the panels on the sides, 2 pieces, have a length of 2010 mm;
  • transverse element, one for the end panel, 1810 mm long;
  • racks with a height of 10 cm 4 pieces.

Elements made of 50 by 50 mm timber produced for the lifting frame:

  • longitudinal parts for the sheathing inside are five pieces with a length of 2005 mm;
  • transverse elements for sheathing inside, 2 pieces with a length of 1805 mm.

Slats sawn from plywood or boards measuring 60 by 15 by 1805 mm - 11 pieces.

Covering the bottom of the box is 2 sheets of fiberboard measuring 1650 by 2330 mm.

Having prepared all the necessary elements in order to assemble the structure, you can begin sheathing and assembling all the parts.

Step-by-step work

If you are going to make a rounded headboard, then the template must initially be made on paper, and then transferred to chipboard and cut out using a jigsaw. Here it is important to take into account the fact that the headboard must be pressed against the wall, so the entire structure will be stronger. Usually at the junction with the floor and walls there is a plinth that has different widths. Thus, a support element made of a block or piece of chipboard, which has the same thickness as the baseboard, is specially fixed on top in the center of the headboard. Using it you will provide support for the backrest against the wall. You can, of course, remove part of the baseboard in the place where the bed will be located.

After this, you should try on the parts of the box to the headboard in the place where the installation will be carried out. Then, the supplied panels of the chipboard box are secured to each other in the corners using a piece of bars or metal corners. The headboard is not attached yet, because initially it needs to be covered with fabric. And elements from bars are tried on the attached panels.

The lamellas are tried on across the already laid bars and their location is marked.

The next thing to do is cover the head of the bed with foam rubber. Here you need to use a stapler and staples. The foam is leveled and initially secured to the front of the panel.

Then its edges are folded over and secured with staples on the back of the panel.

The fabric that you selected for this is stretched over the foam. It is better to buy thick fabric that repels dust.

Sheathing work begins at the bottom of the panel, and then the fabric is carefully stretched and attached in the same way as the foam rubber at the back of the panel.

Now you can secure the already upholstered headboard in place.

Then you need to make a frame for the lifting frame. All parts are assembled and secured using metal corners. All the bars, there are five of them, must be placed at the same distance; you should start from the middle of the entire structure. The beam in the middle should rest against a partition made of chipboard, which in turn is fixed in the frame of the bed itself. After you have assembled the frame, it is temporarily removed to the side.

Then, both the inside and outside of the box wall must be sheathed using a stapler; initially, the padding polyester is secured, and then the same fabric with which you sheathed the headboard for the bed.

The next step is securing and marking the parts that relate to the lifting mechanism on the frame.

After all these manipulations, it is necessary to try on the frame to the box and mark the place where the beam will be installed on the side panels of the box, on which the second part of the lifting mechanism parts will be installed.

After this, the beam is fixed, and the fixed elements of the lifting mechanism are screwed to it, and the structure is tested. The beam is fixed to the chipboard using self-tapping screws, which are 5 cm long. The heads of these screws should be recessed into the wood by 0.5 - 1 mm.

Then lamellas are attached to the frame transversely to the bars using self-tapping screws.

When the bed is folded, the lifting mechanism is located in a special niche between the bars. A semicircular cutout is cut out on the partition, where the element of the lifting mechanism will be located.

Now the entire structure is installed on the panel on the side to make it convenient to carry out subsequent work.

The next step is to prepare the chipboard sheets with which you will cover the bottom of the bed frame. This will make it possible to build a space where you can store different things.
