Old Russa fountain. Russia

Muravyovsky fountain (Source No. 1) is a self-flowing mineral spring located on the territory of a resort in the city of Staraya Russa, Novgorod region.

Due to the growing needs of the resort for mineral water, in 1854 it was decided to drill a new well. The article by F. D. Weber “About the Muravyovsky spring in Staraya Russa” reports that drilling of the source began on September 10, 1858 at 10 a.m. and by September 18, 1859 at 4:30 p.m. was completed in the presence of a commission consisting of Messrs. Loputkovsky, Cherkasov, Dmitriev, Ekimov and Zheltukhin. This key was named in honor of the Minister of State Property Count Muravyov (who was in charge of the resort). The article reported that 7 thousand silver rubles were spent on drilling work. But the source turned out to be too salty and gradually fell into disuse. Weber wrote: “And the new one, Muravyovsky, although it is used internally, still contains too many salts to serve for methodical treatment with water.” At first the source was used for technical needs, then it became a symbol of the resort and the city as a whole.

Device

The initial depth of the well was, according to some sources, 119.5 meters, according to others - 118.08. The well was secured with wooden pipes. In 1904, engineer M.V. Sergeev replaced the wooden fastening with six-inch red copper pipes. The source has been recaptured and deepened. During the battles and occupation of the city during the Great Patriotic War the fountain was completely destroyed. After release Staraya Russa On February 18, 1944, work began to restore the fountain.

Appearance

Until 1894, the fountain's well was a wooden pipe with a bowl through which water poured. Later, to decorate the source, a stone pedestal with a marble bowl was made, from which a stream of water flowed to a height of 1.5 meters and fell onto the tiled floor, seeping into the soil. In 1890-1895, the well was reconstructed, a fountain was installed, over which a metal glazed tent was built, and a brick pool was built around the well. The fountain flowed to a height of up to 8.5 meters, producing about 61.50000 liters per day at a constant temperature of about 11 °C. Gradually, covered galleries were built adjacent to the tent. One connected the fountain to the building of a state-owned hotel with 65 rooms. Another gallery led to a wooden theater built by Benois. All buildings were decorated with carvings. The style of this ensemble was given by the famous decorator Izenberg and the Novgorod artist Erenberg. This is how it existed until the Great Patriotic War. After serious damage, the fountain was restored in 1955 along with a healing gallery and veranda. In 1982, a new dome was erected, but due to salts in the air, it quickly rusted and was dismantled. Since the spring of 1996, the fountain has been open. The jet pressure was reduced due to negative influence on the trees growing nearby. In 2015, the fountain received evening illumination. The device is planned...

After this, Staraya Russa began to develop as a resort center, many people began to come here famous people. In 1857, the Muravyovsky artesian well was developed in the city. By the way, this is the most powerful self-flowing mineral fountain in Europe. Until now, it is considered one of the main city decorations of Staraya Russa. There are a total of eight mineral water springs in the city. Two of them are located in the drinking gallery. Anyone can pick up this delicious and healthy water. Of course, the Muravyovsky spring is especially popular among tourists and local residents.

In 1857, the Muravyovsky artesian well was developed in the city. By the way, this is the most powerful self-flowing mineral fountain in Europe.

The history of the Muravyovsky spring began in 1854 thanks to the Minister of State Property M. Muravyov. It was he who became interested in Staraya Russa and the healing climate of this city. Muravyov gave orders to improve the mud therapy department and develop pine baths. In addition, Muravyov ordered an additional well to be drilled so that the resort would not have a shortage of mineral water. This is how a well with a depth of 116 m appeared in Staraya Russa. A real fountain of mineral water 10 meters high! In one second, the spring spewed out 70 liters of water. A little later, in 1905, engineer Sergeev deepened the fountain by three meters. Due to this, the height of the fountain became about 8.5 m, and the amount of erupted water per day reached more than 61 thousand liters. Interestingly, the water temperature was unchanged - about 11 degrees. By the way, the fountain was very beautifully decorated externally - it was framed by a glass tent.

The territory of Staraya Russa has a special microclimate, which is created thanks to eight mineral springs drinking water and salt lakes, from which sulfide-silt mud is extracted, used for medical procedures. Because of these natural resources, staying in Staraya Russa is very beneficial for your health.

Alas, during the war the drinking gallery was completely destroyed. After the liberation of Russa from the Nazis, the fountain and resort began to be restored. Today the Muravyovsky spring does not have any special decorations. However, even without this, it is very popular among tourists and city residents.

Visitors love to walk next to the fountain - there is a special, healing air on its territory. For almost 160 years, the fountain has been giving joy and health to the townspeople and guests of Russa. By the way, scientists have found that the reserves of mineral water underground are enormous.

The article reported that 7 thousand silver rubles were spent on drilling work. But the source turned out to be too salty and gradually fell into disuse. The Muravyovsky fountain is a symbol of the Staraya Russa resort and the entire city. During its existence, it has undergone many changes: from a well with a marble bowl above it to a beautiful glazed tent with galleries diverging to the sides. After the destruction caused during the war, the Muravyovsky fountain was left open again, which makes walks around it especially pleasant.

The need for an additional source of mineral water in the resort increased every year. So, in 1854 it was decided to drill a new well. “On September 10, 1858, at 10 a.m., drilling of the source began and was completed by September 18, 1859, at 4:30 a.m. in the presence of a commission consisting of Messrs. Loputkovsky, Cherkasov, Dmitriev, Ekimov and Zheltukhin,” says the article by F.D. .Weber. The source was named Muravyovsky - in honor of Count Muravyov, the Minister of State Property, under whose jurisdiction the resort was located. The article also noted that 7 thousand silver rubles were spent on drilling the well. However, the water in the source turned out to be too salty for drinking, and therefore work on the well was not justified. Later, Weber wrote: “And the new one, Muravyovsky, although it is used internally, still contains too many salts to serve for methodical treatment with water.” For some time, the Muravyovsky spring was used for technical needs, gradually becoming a symbol of the Starorusskaya health resort and the entire city. At that time, the depth of the well was 118.08 meters according to some sources and 119.5 meters according to others, it was secured with wooden pipes.

In 1904, engineer M.V. Sergeev deepened the well, and the wooden pipes were replaced with six-inch copper ones. Until 1894, the source was a wooden pipe with a bowl above it. Later, it was decided to give the symbol of Staraya Russa a proper look, for which a stone pedestal with a marble bowl was made. A stream of water from the bowl hit a height of up to 1.5 meters and fell onto the tiled floor, seeping into the soil.

Finally, over the course of 5 years (from 1890 to 1895), a metal glass tent was built over the source, and a brick pool was built around the well. Now it was a real fountain, shooting up to 8.5 meters in height. The water temperature of the mineral fountain is around 11 °C all year round and it produces 61.50000 liters per day. Then covered galleries were added to the tent: one of them connected the fountain with the building of a state-owned hotel with 65 rooms, the other led to a wooden theater built by the famous Russian architect N.L. Benois (1813-1898). The style of the entire ensemble, decorated with carvings, was given by the famous decorator Izenberg and the Novgorod artist Erenberg. This is how the source was remembered by the pre-war generation.

During the Second World War, the dome and adjacent buildings were almost completely destroyed. In 1955, only the fountain itself, the healing gallery and the veranda were restored. And in 1982, a new dome was erected over the source, but due to the high concentration of mineral salts released into the air with water, the dome quickly rusted and had to be dismantled.

Since 1996, the fountain has stood open, framed by granite slabs, with benches for vacationers around it. Due to the negative impact on trees growing nearby, the pressure of the mineral water stream is reduced. Recently, at night, the waters of the Muravyovsky fountain are illuminated with multi-colored lights. Usually, on the opening day of the holiday season, which falls at the end of May - beginning of June, the fountain is opened at full power, which is especially popular with children, who enjoy playing under the splashes. mineral waters carried by gusts of wind.
