Preferences when choosing a social network have age characteristics. VKontakte andInstagram can be classified as communities with preponderance of youth. The largest share of the audience of VKontakte users - 40% - falls on people aged 25–34 years. Among Instagram users, 38% are aged 18-24 years, 37% are aged 25-34 years. Among the daily audience Odnoklassniki the most common group is also 25-34 years old (28%). At the same time, the distribution of Odnoklassniki’s audience by age is the closest among all social networks to general distribution Internet audience in Russia. Among the Facebook audience, the majority of people are aged from 35 to 44 years (28%) and from 45 to 59 (26%), the core of the My World audience is 45-59 year olds (39%). Among the messengers that Russians consider their main ones, the leaders are: whatsapp(44%), messages via messenger VKontakte (32%), SMS(32%) and Viber(30%). The choice of a program for exchanging short messages is also closely related to age - among respondents over 60 years old, SMS is most often used (43%), and in the group of 18-24 years old - the VKontakte messenger (69%). A comparison of the messengers and social networks used shows that it is enough high level of commitment to their way of sending short messages typical for VKontakte (67% of network users consider its messenger the main one) and Odnoklassniki (62%).

How users interact with brands on social networks

Half of Sprout Social survey respondents said they would unfollow a brand's community if I posted content that they found offensive, and 27% said they would mark a brand and its page as spam and block it. Social networks with the most active audience

An important factor that influences how much time we should devote to SMM on a particular social network is the level of audience engagement. Here again, Facebook dominates, and also has the highest engagement over time, according to data from analytics firm comScore's study of a panel of US consumers.

Northern, Western and Southern Europe, and also North America can boast of the most high level Internet penetration - 74%-94% of the total population uses the World Wide Web. In Russia, 110 million people use the Internet—76% of the total population.

The growth in the global audience of social networks since January 2017 was 13%. The fastest growth in the number of users is observed in Saudi Arabia. Since January 2017, their number has increased by 32%, the global average is 17%. Other countries with the highest growth rates include India, Indonesia and Ghana.
